Join Linda McCann for her program on Prisoners of War in Iowa. There were about 25,000 German, Italian and Japanese Prisoners of War in Iowa during World War II. There were the military men who were taken during battles. There were two main camps in Iowa--Algona and Clarinda. Each held about 3,000 prisoners. Additionally, there were about 17 branch camps in Iowa that had POWs for short-term projects; mostly over the summer, and were usually under 200 prisoners each.
