Packing For A Long Trip to Mars - Gr 3 & Up Jun 05, 2019 from 09:30 AM to 10:15 AM Harlan Community Library,
Come have fun with Shelby County's ISU Extension and Outreach at the library! Learn what you would need to take to Mars, how to pack everything you need into a box and explore why you think you would need to take it with you. Enjoy a snack of dehydrated bananas just like you were a real astronaut.

The library is partnering with Coffeegirl, located in the downtown square, to offer a fun new program over the lunch hour. You can purchase a delicious drink and something yummy to nibble on while the library hosts an informal educational event. In June, our topic will be Astronomy 101. There will be a short presentation followed by time for questions and conversation.
Start Your Week with Space: Living in Space Jun 03, 2019 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM Harlan Community Library - Meeting Room,
Join us as we live stream a fun space event from NASA on Mondays at 1pm in the library. During the first week, get introduced to the similarities and differences between living on Earth and living in Space. Microgravity is discussed and how it affects an Astronaut's life on the International Space Station (ISS). Demonstration of liquid nitrogen will be conducted to help with understanding of fuel and the density of gas versus a liquid. We will have handouts of the different activities discussed during the live stream so you can try them at home.

Bring your little one and join us for Babies & Books. A story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. These 20-to-30-minute story times introduce books, songs, rhymes, tickles and bounces developmentally appropriate for children from birth to 18 months. Baby Lap Time is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the joys of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This story time is designed so the baby will be in their caregiver’s lap and the grownup is actively involved in the program; it is recommended that each child have their own adult with them.

OWLS: Older, Wiser, Learning Seniors Jun 24, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 01:30 PM Harlan Community Library,
Join us in June for a Glimpse Into Glacier National Park. Our OWLS program is an educational program for seniors and is presented at the Harlan Senior Center. The program is free and open to seniors of the community. For those who would like to eat at the Senior Center during the program, please contact the Senior Center at 755-2757 at least 2 days in advance.

Join us to create this fun abstract painting of our galaxy with Meraki Hub. The canvas will be 11"x12". The event costs just $10. Pre-registration is required. The program is part of our Adult Summer Library Program. Ages 12 and up. All materials provided.

The program is sponsored by the Monogram Loves Kids Foundation.

Kick back and relax with this easy going group. Each month we choose a new book to read. It can range from historical fiction, thriller or just warm and cozy. The book club meets at 7pm generally the last Wednesday of the month. Start Your Week with Space: Our Solar System Jun 10, 2019 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM Harlan Community Library - Meeting Room,
Join us as we live stream a fun space event from NASA on Mondays at 1pm in the library. During the second week, NASA will be talking on the size of space. Learn about the planets in our solar system and see an activity that focuses on the distances between the planets and creates a scale distance model of the solar system using receipt tape. We will have handouts of the different activities discussed during the live stream so you can try them at home.

Join us as we live stream a fun space event from NASA on Mondays at 1pm in the library. During the third week, NASA will be talking about landing on the Moon. Learn about historical NASA landings, current NASA missions and checkout the engineering design challenge: Touchdown. We will have handouts of the different activities discussed during the live stream so you can try them at home.

Join us as we live stream a fun space event from NASA on Mondays at 1pm in the library. During the 4th week, we will check out NASA's LCROSS mission. NASA's LCROSS mission made a deep hole on the moon looking for ice in the soil. Learn about the moon and the LCROSS mission and checkout the engineering design challenge: On Target. We will have handouts of the different activities discussed during the live stream so you can try them at home.
