Star Lab for Kids Jul 02, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Harlan Community Library,
Join us for an amazing morning as we explore the stars in our universe. We will have a variety of different stations for kids to experience. They include the Science First Star Lab, Drone Demonstrations, NASA memorabilia exhibit and decorating your own space bookmark. The event is part of our kids' summer library program and is free and open to the public

Join the library at Vets' Auditorium as Shelby County Conservation guides you through an informative program in the Starlab Portable Planetarium. You will learn all about the night sky. This program is for adults and is free and open to the public.

Moon Screen Printing Shirt Class Jul 13, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Harlan Community Library - Children's Area,
Come create your own screen printed shirt to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing. We will be using glow in the dark printing liquid so you are sure to stand out. Bring a 100% cotton T-Shirt or even a towel. You will get an opportunity to learn about the screen printing process. The event is free and open to the public. The target audience is adults or children age 12 and up. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.
Books & Babies Jul 13, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Harlan Community Library,
Bring your little one and join us for Babies & Books. A story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. These 20-to-30-minute story times introduce books, songs, rhymes, tickles and bounces developmentally appropriate for children from birth to 18 months. Baby Lap Time is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the joys of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This story time is designed so the baby will be in their caregiver’s lap and the grownup is actively involved in the program; it is recommended that each child have their own adult with them.

Join us in July for Astronomy 101. Our OWLS program is an educational program for seniors and is presented at the Harlan Senior Center. The program is free and open to seniors of the community. For those who would like to eat at the Senior Center during the program, please contact the Senior Center at 755-2757 at least 2 days in advance.

Kick back and relax with this easy going group. Each month we choose a new book to read. It can range from historical fiction, thriller or just warm and cozy. The book club meets at 7pm generally the last Wednesday of the month. Out of this World Scavenger Hunt Jul 25, 2019 from 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM Harlan Community Library,
Join us for another great scavenger hunt at the library on July 25th starting at 6pm. Sign your team up (2-6 people) and work together to crack the codes and solve the mystery. If you do not have a team, you can still sign up and we will assign you to a team. The scavenger hunt is free and open to the public. Join us for our 2 day summer Creative Writing Camp for ages 12-18. Connect with like minded peers who also enjoy the art of writing. We will have creative writing exercises, critique sessions, a visit with an author, lunch, snacks and PRIZES. The event is FREE and open to the public. Reverse Applique Class Jul 30, 2019 from 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM Harlan Community Library,
We will be offering a class on how to do reverse applique to create a stained glass effect. All participants will experience hands on the process to complete one quilt block. You can either create the block by bringing your sewing machine or if you do not have a sewing machine you can sew the block by hand. The cost is just $10 and attendees need to pre-register. When you register, you will receive a list of supplies that you will need to bring with you.
NASA's Grand Leap Live Stream Jul 19, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM Harlan Community Library,
"On July 19, we will broadcast live from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the historic, newly-restored Apollo mission control room at Johnson Space Center in Houston and the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. We will also be at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, with a special guest host. We’ll look in live on Neil Armstrong’s hometown of Wapakoneta, Ohio, see the Apollo 11 command module on display in Seattle, and see slices of Americana at other anniversary celebrations around the country. We’ll tell the story of how we got there, and how we’ll get there again, hearing directly from Apollo astronauts alongside current and future astronauts, scientists, engineers, and others sharing some untold stories, quirky facts, and personal reflections about journeying to the lunar surface.
