Give Money to the Library

Your gift of money is always welcome at the Library. We have various programs to suit your giving needs. A gift to the library is a nice way to commemorate a person, a birthday or other special event.

Gifts of money will be accepted and deposited into the library trust account provided conditions (if any) attached thereto are acceptable to the Board of Trustees.

Designated Donations - Initially, all cash contributions for designated items will be deposited in the Library Trust account, properly earmarked for intended purposes. Then, when appropriate, these funds will be withdrawn and expended pursuant to the intentions of the donor.

    • The Harlan Community Library welcomes and encourages cash or negotiable contributions for the purpose of purchasing books, materials, equipment, and fixtures as memorials. Donations of personal property for placement in the library as memorials will be considered by the Board of Trustees on an ad hoc basis.
    • While it is the preference of the Board of Trustees to accept a cash or negotiable contribution for a memorial which leaves the selection of materials to be purchased therewith to the sound discretion of the Library Director, the library will accept a conditional cash or negotiable donation as a memorial and subject to the library’s policy regarding the suitability of materials, will honor the donor’s request for its specific use whenever possible.
    • All items purchased as memorials will be appropriately identified. Whenever possible, books selected as memorials will be of a long-term interest and utility nature to ensure lasting donor satisfaction in the knowledge that his or her recognized contribution will remain in the collection for many years. The library shall maintain a register of library books, materials, equipment and fixtures that have been added to the library as memorials. The register shall be made available to the general public upon request.

Adopt an Author

    • Patrons who have favorite authors, can donate monies for books to be purchased when they become available that are written by that author.
    • The patron is then recognized inside the front cover of the book for providing the book to the library.
    • The patron is then given the right to be the first person to check out the book.
    • All purchases are subject

Other Designated Donations

    • Many times patrons or their loved ones or friends want to donate money to the library for specific items to be purchased such as books in the person's honor.

Non Designated Donations - Cash donations given that are not specified by the donor will be used by the library at the discretion of the Library Director and/or Board of Trustees.

Non Monetary Donations

  • Gifts of real property, stock and other assets not readily negotiable shall likewise be accepted if conditions attached thereto by the donor are acceptable to the Board of Trustees.
